Playing With a Purpose
27th Annual Allen H. Chatterton, Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament
On
August 2, 124 golfers took part in the 27th Annual Allen H. Chatterton,
Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament at the world-famous Carnegie Abbey Club in
Portsmouth. The tournament netted $40,800 to benefit the Museum’s hands-on exhibits and innovative educational programs.
The day’s winners included: low gross team – Mark Doorley and team from
Doorley Insurance Agency; low net team – Brad Dimeo and team from Dimeo
Construction Company; individual low net – Ken Read; and individual low
gross – Joe Pannone. In addition to golf, 8 tennis players
participated in a lively round robin, won by John Shekarchi and John
Savastano.
With the encouragement of auctioneer Steve MacDonald, guests generously
bid $12,800 on exciting live and silent auction items including a
weekend sports fan getaway and rounds of golf at exclusive
courses. A raffle and contest holes around the course fetched an
additional $4,450. The foursome from Nortek, Inc. won a round at
Sakonnet Golf Club in a special contest sponsored by Chatterton
Insurance, Inc.
The Museum’s annual golf tournament was instituted in 1983 by the late
Allen Chatterton, Jr., an early supporter and board member of the
Children’s Museum. The Museum gratefully acknowledges Allen H.
Chatterton III, who chaired the tournament for the 21st consecutive
year in memory of his father, and the following sponsors: Deidre &
Lawrence Madeira; Nortek, Inc.; Scott Volkswagen; Bank of America;
Dimeo Construction Company; Cardi Corporation; Delta Dental of Rhode
Island; Ned Handy & Polly Chatterton Handy with Shaw McDermott
& Hope Chatterton McDermott; and Sansiveri, Kimball & Company,
L.L.P. Thanks also to all of the generous in-kind
donors, volunteers and committee members who made the tournament a
terrific success!
"Life is a Carnival" Gala Nets
$75,000
On Friday, April 9, Providence
Children’s Museum welcomed 225 supporters and friends to the Museum for
the “Life is a Carnival” gala fundraiser. The festive, playful event
netted $75,000 to benefit the Museum’s Play Works Campaign for Kids and
will fund two exciting new play and learning environments opening in
the Museum’s Children’s Garden
in June.
The Museum was buzzing with
excitement as generous supporters bid on more than 80 elaborate silent
auction items. The auction raised $16,300, including the purchase of 15
charitable memberships for low-income families. The evening was
complete with music by Cajun trio Magnolia, the wild sounds of What
Cheer Brigade, upscale carnival fare and cocktails by Blackstone
Catering, playful carnival games for grown-ups, and roving performers
including magicians, jugglers, a stilt walker and a plate spinner.
Providence Children’s Museum
gratefully acknowledges and thanks major event sponsor CVS Caremark;
the Carnival’s many other sponsors; and Carnival co-chairs Margaret and
Brian Batting, Stacy and Brett Carlson, Wendy and Tim Froggatt, and Kim
